On Tuesday, the 26th of March, France took on Spain in Paris, in the Stade de France. The match would determine who would earn top spot in qualifying Group 1.


During the match, Spain had most of the ball possesion while France had clearer goal scoring opportunities. Ribery had a great chance in the 38th minute to break the deadlock, but failed to do so as Victor Valdes managed to make the stop. In the 59th minute, Pedro made it 0-1 as he got onto Monreal's low hit cross. Nineteen minutes later, Pogba was sent off after receiving his second booking making it even harder for France to equalize to get a point out of the match. In the end, France couldn't manage to get a late equalizer as they did in their last qualifying match against Spain putting the World Champions in first place in Group 1.

Champions League Quarter Finals

 2012/13 Champions League Quarter-Final match-ups

 
Galatasaray SK

 Real Madrid CF






 It will be a tough match for Turkish side, Galatasaray as they will take on Spanish giants, Real Madrid with the first leg taking place the 3rd of April, 2013 in the Santiago Bernabeu.  In the round of 16, Galatasaray took on German side, Schalke.  In the first leg in Istanbul, the match ended 1-1 with Burak Yilmaz scoring for Galatasaray and Jones scoring for Schalke.  In the second leg in the Veltins Arena, Galatasaray won 3-2.  To give Real Madrid a good test, Galatasaray's new signings, Wesley Sneijder and Didier Drogba will have to perform on the night.  

Real Madrid will be looking to win their 10th Champions League title this year, "La Decima" as they say in Spain.  In the round of 16, Madrid took on the Reds, Manchester United.  The first leg in the Santiago Bernabeu finished as a draw, 1-1 with goals coming from Danny Welbeck and Real Madrid's key man Cristiano Ronaldo who scored the equalizer ten minutes after Welbeck's header.  In the second leg in the Theatre of Dreams, Old Trafford, things got difficult when in the 48th minute, Sergio Ramos scored an own goal, but when former English Premier League player Luka Modric entered, he changed the game when he scored a great goal from outside the box in the 66th minute.  Three minutes later, against his old club, Ronaldo scored the goal which would send them to the quarter finals.



 


       Malaga CF

For this Quarter-Final match-up, Malaga CF will take on German side Borussia Dortmund.  The first leg will take place in Malaga's stadium, La Rosaleda on the 3rd of April, 2013.  

In the round of 16, Malaga CF took on portuguese club, FC Porto.  Malaga lost the first leg 1-0 in the Estadio de Dragao, but in the second leg at home, Malaga won the match 2-0 with goals coming from youngster Isco and Santa Cruz.  It is Malaga's first time in the Champions League quarter-finals.


Borussia Dortmund took on Shakhtar Donetsk in their Round of 16 match-up.  The first leg ended as a draw, 2-2 in Shakhtar Donetsk's stadium, meaning that Borussia Dortmund had the advantage going into the second leg with two away goals.  Jurgen Klopp's Borussia made no mistake in the second leg winning 3-0 at home with goals coming Felipe Santana, Mario Gotze, and Jakub Blaszczykowski.  Borussia Dortmund have won the Champions League title one time in their history when they beat Juventus in the 1997 final.

This Champions League quarter-final match-up sees Paris Saint-Germain take on FC Barcelona.  The first leg will take place the 2nd of April, 2013 in PSG's stadium, Parc des Princes.

PSG took on Spanish club Valencia CF in their Round of 16 tie.  In the first leg, PSG came away with an important away victory winning 1-2.  Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off in extra-time meaning that he would miss the second leg infront of the Paris fans.  In the second leg, Valencia gave PSG a test when they scored first in the 55th minute, but in the 66th minute, Ezequiel Lavezzi scored for PSG sending them through to the quarter-finals.  Ibrahimovic will miss the first leg against his old club because of his sending off against Valencia, but will surely feature in the return leg in the Nou Camp.


FC Barcelona took on AC Milan in their Round of 16 tie.  In the first leg, FC Barcelona struggled to find a goal and were beaten 2-0 in the San Siro making the return leg in the Nou Camp complicated as they would have to score two goals to tie and three goals to move on against a defensive Italian side.  In the second leg in the Nou Camp, FC Barcelona came out strong playing great football and in the first half, Lionel Messi scored two stunning goals to tie the match on aggregate.  In the second half, FC Barcelona were put into the lead on aggregate in the 55th minute as a perfect pass from Xavi found David Villa inside the box and Villa made no mistake scoring the third of the night.  Then in added time, Jordi Alba sealed the deal for Barça scoring the fourth of a truly magical night in the Nou Camp.

        Juventus FC  







The first leg of this great Champions League quarter-final match-up between FC Bayern Munich and Juventus FC will take place on the 10th of April, 2013 in the Juventus Stadium.  FC Bayern Munich faced Arsenal FC in their Round of 16 tie. FC Bayern Munich took total control of their Round of 16 tie against Arsenal when they beat the Gunners 1-3 in the Emirates Stadium. The second leg in the Allianz Arena saw FC Bayern Munich concede two away goals as the London side won 0-2, but that wasn't enough to stop Bayern from moving on to the quarter-finals.  Juventus FC took on Scottish side Celtic in their Round of 16 tie. Juventus FC dominated the first leg with a 0-3 away win in the Celtic Park. In the second leg in the Juventus Stadium, Juventus FC beat Celtic 2-0 with goals coming from Matri and Quagliarella.
